Artist Bio
I graduated from Principia College, Elsah, Illinois, in 2020 after pursuing a double major in Studio Art and Spanish. The primary mediums I choose when creating are oil paint or watercolor, and my most recent series of work was in preparation for a Senior Exhibition in the Spring of 2020 (shown under 'capstone').
My motive is to express positive emotions through my art. When choosing a subject for a painting, I gravitate towards bright landscapes, flowers, or settings with vibrant colors. Working with these broad themes allows me to feel freedom when painting and build paint up with thickness and playfulness according to my emotional reaction to the piece.
I love the opportunity to capture moments of beauty in nature with color, and similarly love to emphasize the beauty of life when using charcoal in portraits. The flexibility of this medium allows me to depict individuals with personal interpretation, and to convey my perception of a person more than with excessively precise attention to physical characteristics.
Through portraiture and painting, I work to showcase beauty and care for the subject I’m studying. It’s a rewarding experience to display how I feel about my subject through line and color, and this is what I strive to do with my art. The therapy of enhancing a familiar setting or capturing the appealing nature of an individual is a positive practice for me, and one I thoroughly enjoy undertaking.
